TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER DUCHESS STREET, W1 45/88 10.9.54 No. 10 G.V. II Mews building, now part of British Medical Association. c.1769-71 by Robert Adam, as the stable-coach house to Chandos House, Queen Anne Street q.v.; quite sympathetically altered c.1924 by Arthur Bolton. Stucco, slate roof. Distinctive neo-classical composition. 3 storeys. 3 bays wide, the centre taller. Central carriage archway in channelled surround, with flanking piers; above through 1st and 2nd floors the centre is flanked by pairs of pilasters of the Tower of the Winds order supporting enriched frieze, dentil cornice and parapet with dies ornamented with oval rosettes. The lower outer bays,with windows in 2 storeys, are surmounted by anthemion iron cresting. The whole composition is flanked by panelled piers crowned by sphinxes.
