Description
An early C16 timber-framed and plastered building (No 18 is now plastered brick) with Cl9 and later alterations. No 16 has 2 storeys above the steeple Gate, double jettied, with carved bressumers carried on chamfered posts with curved braces No 18 has 2 storeys with a parapet The archway and No 16 are built above vaulted cellars.

HIGH STREET 1. 1082 (South Side) Nos 16 & 18 (Including Steeple Gate) TL 5480 1/77 23.9.50. II* GV 2. An early C16 timber-framed and plastered building (No 18 is now plastered brick) with Cl9 and later alterations. No 16 has 2 storeys above the steeple Gate, double jettied, with carved bressumers carried on chamfered posts with curved braces No 18 has 2 storeys with a parapet The archway and No 16 are built above vaulted cellars. 2 window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in flush cased frames. No 18 has a C19 shop front. Roofs tiled, hipped over the jettied upper storeys of No 16.
All the listed buildings in High Street except No 2 form a group with The Almonry, Wall to the gardens of the Almonry and Painted chamber, The Sacristy Gate and goldsmith's Tower, The college.
