GV II

3 terraced houses with shops. 1855-64. By William Finch Hill. Stucco. Modified French Renaissance style. 4 storeys. 3 windows each, No.39 with a 2 window return to Gilbert Place. Nos 37 & 38 with C19 shopfronts, No.39, C20 but retaining pilasters with fielded panels and roundels at angle. Separating each house and at angle, rusticated pilaster strips from 1st to 3rd floor, topped with small segmental pediments. 2-pane sashes. 1st floor round-arched, architraved, recessed sashes, above which architraved oculi enriched with swags. 2nd floor console bracketed sill bands to segmental-arched sashes. Console bracketed cornice beneath 3rd floor architraved sashes with keys. Coved cornice. INTERIORS: not inspected.
