AMESBURY WEST AMESBURY SU 1541 (west side)
11/78 Merion Cottage and attached cottage to east (The Chalkhouse Cottage)
GV II Row of 4 or 5 cottages, now two dwellings. C18 and C19. Chalk block laced and quoined in brick, extended in chalk, flint and brick. Thatched roof. Single storey and attic. Original section is of four bays, sill and 2 bands of four brick courses, and raised from 1 to 1 storey and attic in header bond brickwork. A half bay containing main stack at left end, with flint lacings, and extended twice to left, probably late C18 or early C19, now Merion Cottage. C20 panelled and studded oak door in opening with cambered half-brick arch and a similar door in right end, now replaced by window. Timber 2-light windows with applied leading in similar brick openings. Seven flush dormers with brick cheeks. Merion Cottage has C20 panelled door. Four brick stacks. Roof half-hipped to left.
