Disused gashouse. Mid-late C19. For Duke of Leeds of Hornby Castle. Brick, Welsh slate roof. l½ storeys, 2 first-floor windows with single- storey range at right angles to right. Raised and louvred apex to roof. Gabled north elevation: central blocked doorway with segmental-arched lintel, similar lintels to first-floor windows. Blocked oculus in gable. Raised verge to gable, detailed at apex to raised and louvred ridge. West end of lower range: double board doors below timber lintel forming cart entrance. Interior: fragments of retorts at south end. Metal-framed roof trusses, boarded roof. A rare example of an estate gashouse in this part of North Yorkshire.
