SETTLE KIRKGATE SD 8063-8163 (south side) 10/23 Weavers Cottage (formerly 20.2.58 listed as Miss Crofton's Cottages) II Formerly 3 cottages, now 1. Dated 1664. Slobbered rubble, stone dressings, stone slate roof. C17 range parallel to street is mostly hidden by C19 property to the left, and projecting C18 wing of the cottage to the right which has gable end next to the street. C17 range is 2 storeys with 1 bay exposed containing entrance with chamfered surround and decorated lintel with basket head and date; c.1980 door. Dripstone over. To left is single light chamfered window; upper floor has chamfered window with round head; both have fixed lights. C18 wing is 2 storeys, 3 bays and contains right-hand chamfered entrance now partially blocked to form a window with C20 casements. At rear are 2 chamfered windows with cavetto mulllions: 3 lights on ground floor and 2 lights on upper floor. Central ridge stack and right-hand gable end stack. Inside to left of entrance is stone water trough where hand loom weavers are reputed to have damped their yarn before working.
