GV II

House. c1705, c1805 and c1905. Rubble with some brick dressings, part roughcast, pantile roof. T-shaped plan, 2 storeys, partly with attics, 5:2:3 bays. Original 5-bay house: quoins to left. Central 6-panel door below radial fanlight with C20 surround and lead-covered shell hood supported on brackets. Above and to left, sundial with bolection frame and inscribed "MANEO NEMINE" (Nobody Endures). Sash windows with glazing bars below brick flat arches, of 15 panes on ground floor in fourth and fifth bays. Next 2 bays: c1805; sash windows with glazing bars below brick flat arches. Next 3 bays: c1905; roughcast; sash windows with glazing bars; roof dormers to ninth and tenth bays. Brick stepped eaves. Shaped kneelers, ashlar copings. Brick stacks at ends and between fifth and sixth, and eighth and ninth bays. Rear wing, left return: round-arched ashlar door- case with leaved door of 6 fielded panels below radial fanlight. Irregular sash windows with glazing bars, of 18 panes on first floor to left. Brick stepped eaves. Rear wing, right return: central gabled bay. Most windows altered, but some 3-light side-sliding sashes, and 2 canted bays on ground floor to right. Interior: early C18 staircase inside door with turned balusters. On ground floor to right of door, hall with paired fluted Doric columns supporting segmental arch; fluted frieze. Dining room next right, formerly a kitchen, with two-thirds of tripartite fireplace. Sitting room to right again with Edwardian Classical cornice.
