4/112 Nos 1-6 (consecutive) Station Cottages

GV II

6 railway cottages. c1846. By G T Andrews for George Hudson's Great North of England Railway. Sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, Welsh slate roof. Jacobethan style. 2 storeys with rear outshut, 6 bays. Single- storey lateral buttresses at each end, quoins. Alternately left and right of first-floor windows, board doors in quoined triangular-headed surrounds. Quoined surrounds to mullion windows with casements, of 3 lights with relieving arches on ground floor, of 2 lights on first floor below gables with bargeboards and apex pendant. Paired tall ashlar corniced stacks between bays 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6. One of an important surviving group of railway buildings.
