9/53 Duncombe Park 4.1.55 (Formerly listed under General) GV I

Great house. Early C18 with additions and alterations of 1845 and 1880's. Probably by William Wakefield to plans by Vanbrugh. 2 storeys with basement and attic, 11 bays: 2:2:3:2:2. Garden front: central 3 bay section has steps up to tetrastyle Tuscan portico carrying triglyph frieze and carved pediment. Outer bays break forward and are defined by angle Doric pilasters carrying triglyph friezes. Central bays have round-headed sash windows beneath keyed arches. Outer bays: sash windows with keyed architraves beneath pediments. First floor: 6-pane sashes under portico. All other windows are sashes with glazing bars. Continuous band at sill level. Plain parapet with urns at angles. Projecting attic behind pediment with urns at angles. Interior: original decorative scheme of c1713 to entrance hall. Original wrought- iron staircase in north wing. Saloon in C18 decorative style probably by William Young 1895.
