WITNEY COGGES SP3609 8/89 Blake School and Blake House GV II
Tithe barn, now school. Cl7, remodelled as school, c.1850-60. Schoolhouse to front: squared and coursed limestone with ashlar dressings; gabled stone slate roof; brick end stacks. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys; symmetrical 2-window range. Bracketed flat hood over beaded 4-panelled door with overlight. Stone lintels over 6-pane sashes. C20 two-storey bay to left. School to rear of similar materials and in Gothic Revival style. Ouatrefoil window to right; C20 extensions to left; rear gable has quatrefoil light above 4-light intersecting tracery window. Right-angle wing to rear right has hood mould and pointed chamfered doorway and 2-light cinquefoil-headed window. Interior: school, former barn, has 5-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins. Included for group value.
