1/29 Inner and outer pairs of gate piers, with gates, approximately 50 metres east of Newby Hall
GV II
Gate piers and gates. c1870 by William Burges for Lady Mary Vyner. Grey gritstone, wrought-iron gates. All 4 piers are approximately 4 metres high, each having moulded base, recessed panels with reliefs of animals, tools and trophies; garlanded frieze and deep cornice to entablature, surmounted by embossed vase with ornate lid and bud finial. Gates: double inner and single outer gates have bars and dogbars, lock rail and scrolled overthrows.
