Wheelhouse. Mid C19. For the Vyner estate of Newby Hall. Brick piers, timber and cast-iron mechanism, Welsh slate roof. The hipped roof is supported by 7 piers, the eighth side being part of the former pumping house, now an engine shed (not of special interest). The wheelhouse retains its framework to which 2 ponies were harnessed to draw up water from the River Ure for use in the house and gardens. It went out of use in 1901.
