AVEBURY - SU 06 NE 11/34 Dovecote at Avebury Manor 22.8.66

GV II*

Dovecote. Mid C16. Sarsen, formerly rendered. Stone tiled roof. Circular plan with stable door on north side and low door to south. Walls slightly battered. Open timber glover with bill finial. Interior has 15 tiers of nest boxes. No ladder. Documentary evidence indicates a building date between 1533 and 1569. (Wilts Notes & Queries VIII 214-224, 270-277)
