SU 17 SW WINTERBOURNE MONKTON A361 6/165 Middle Farmhouse and front garden railings 27.2.58 (Formerly listed as Middle Farmhouse) GV II Farmhouse. c1720 with later extensions. Coursed sarsen with limestone ashlar quoins, string and architraves, slate roof. Two storeys. Three bays, of open E-plan. Earliest block aligned to road, 3 bays, with central entrance to stair hall, the door now removed. String rises over flanking windows, all with wide moulded stone architraves and early C19 sixteen-pane sashes, some renewed. Entrance now on left elevation, comprising a 3-bay wing, probably later C18 in date, further extended by 1 bay in mid C19 with brick dressings and 20 and 24-paned sashes. Door also C19, four-panelled with stone architrave and bracketed stone canopy, and flanked by round headed keyed window. North end of main block also extended to rear in C19, also sarsen with limestone dressings, and further extended by brick block of early C20, linked to brick wash-house with covered way. Roofs hipped, with 3-light paned dormers and tall brick stack. Front garden defined by iron railings on dwarf wall, the ends swept round to stone piers.
