College of Preceptors, now college. 1887. By F Pinches. Red brick with enriched ashlar dressings. Steeply pitched, hipped slate roof with elaborate pedimented ashlar dormer centre piece carried up with carved escutcheons. 3 storeys, basement and attic. 3 windows. Deeply recessed semi-elliptical central doorway with moulded reveal and double panelled door approached by steps. Architraved, 2-light mullion and transom windows, 2nd floor with arched heads. Central 3-light bowed oriel window to 1st floor with enriched apron and dado of 2nd floor window above carried round oriel parapet. Composite pilasters defining window bays of each floor carried in dados with carved, foliated panels with busts centrally in each bay. Centre bay slightly projecting between paired pilasters with continuous arcaded frieze capped by segmental pediments. Arcaded parapets to outside bays. INTERIOR: has a geometrical staircase with wrought-iron balustrade. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area with balustraded stone parapet having panelled piers.
