STANFORD DINGLEY SU 57 SE 6/31 Church of St. Denys GV I Church. C12, C13 and C14 with early C18 chancel. Restored 1870 and 1885. Flint with stone dressings, brick chancel with plinth, stone window dressings, moulded brick eaves cornice and parapet to east. Old tile roofs, weatherboarded bellcote at west end of nave with 4 louvres on each face, pyramidal slate roof and weathervane. Nave, north and south aisles, south porch and chancel. Nave, west end: C14 arched doorway with hoodmould and boarded door with old ironwork, 2 ogee-light square headed window above with hoodmould. Southside: paired C19 lancets to left. South aisle: small C19 lancet at west end and C13 quatrefoil opening at east end. Large C13 trefoil arched south doorway with carved roundel at apex, hoodmould, and shafts with stiff leaf capitals. Old boardeddoor with contemporary ironwork. Triple C19 cusped lancets to right. C19 gabled south porch with chamfered arch, hoodmould with carved stops, and square openings to east and west. North aisle: 3 bays with buttreses, paired C19 cusped lancets to left, and cusped lancets in centre and to right. C13 lancets at east and west ends. Chancel: single round arched windows to north and south, stone wall tablet to Catherine Juliana of 1811 at left to south, and single round arched east window with keystone. Interior: 3 bay north arcade and 2 bay south arcade, with moulded arches of differing sizes, stiff leaf capitals and hoodmoulds. Nave roof of 3 bays with ties, arch braced collars, double purlins and wind-braces. Moulded chancel arch with medieval glazed bricks in north respond. Remains of C13 wall painting in nave. Norman tub font, coat of arms above chancel arch, Commandment boards in chancel and Creed boards in north aisle. Other fittings C19. Monuments: brasses in north aisle to Lady Margaret Dyneley, 1444, and to John Lyford, 1610. Brass of man Circa 1620 in south aisle.
