KIMBOLTON HIGH STREET TL 095675 (NORTH-EAST SIDE) 6/45 NO. 2 (GEORGE HOUSE) 24.10.51 (FORMERLY LISTED AS GEORGE HOTEL) GV II
George House was formerly a coaching inn. In c.1700 a common street facade was added to two original timber-framed ranges at right angles to the street, each with a side passage to the south-west. Ranges to the north-west were added in C19. Rendered timber-frame, local brick, plain tiled roofs. Two storeys with attics. Street facade. Roof hipped to south-east, two stacks. Three flat-roofed dormer windows with horizontal sliding sashes and glazing bars. Three first floor horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars in moulded wooden frames. Central half-glazed and panelled door with panelled pilasters to architrave and flat bracketed canopy. Two flanking hung sash windows with thick glazing bars. Interior has original closed string staircase. Complete bolection moulded panelled room at first floor. C18 panelled doors. C16 oak door to garret. Original mediaeval rafters reused in north-east range and inserted chimney stack. RCHM (Huntd) p174, mon(19).
