BESSELSLEIGH FARINGDON ROAD SP4501 (North side) 10/42 Gatepier of former Manor 09/02/66 House approx. 20m. SE of Church of St. Lawrence (Formerly listed as Gatepier of former Manor House)
GV II
Gatepier. Early C17. Limestone, with some brick to left. Rusticated quoin strips and right side wall. Ashlar front and rear walls have round-headed niches. Moulded plinth and entablature: curved finial. This was one of a pair which formed the main southern entry to the Manor House bought by Speaker Lenthall in 1634: a map of 1724 shows their former context.
