SE 18 NE EAST WITTON OUT PARISH NEWSTEAD LANE (west end, off) 4/42 Low Newstead Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Dated 1685 with later alterations. Rubble, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows, rear outshut. Quoins. To left, blocked quoined door surround with ovolo moulding to arris, and semi-circular panel on lintel inscribed with date. Ground-floor windows: 2 C20 casements, one under large ashlar monolithic lintel, plus one blocked surround of 3-light mullioned window. Blocked single-light window halfway between ground and first floors betweeen bays 2 and 3. First-floor windows: blocked single- light opening and one C20 window in surround of 3-light mullioned window. Shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, end stack left. To left: subsidiary range of 2 lower storeys, with part-glazed door, one bay C20 16-pane sash windows and end stack left. Right return of house contains 2 blocked single-light windows and one small window with trefoil head, also part profile of very steep gable. Formerly a grange of Jervaulx Abbey.
