ST2882 CHARLTON MACKRELL CP WEST CHARLTON (North side) 5/51 Gateway about 175 metres south west of The Court -
GV II
Gate piers and gates. C19. Local lias stonework, cut and squared; wrot iron gates and standards. Square gatepiers with reeded moulded caps and finials which might be old pinnacles reused from St Mary's Church (qv); two gates in mixed Gothic and classical style, with pointed arched openwork standards; top rail curved and capped with spear heads; in centre, opening with cattle grid. Part of the setting of The Court (qv), and also important in the street context at this point.
