SE 2768 LINDRICK WITH STUDLEY STUDLEY PARK ROYAL AND FOUNTAINS Statue and pedestal on 9/81 west side of The Canal, south end (formerly listed 6.3.67 as stone Statue W side of Canal, nearly opposite Quebec Monument) GV II

Statue of Hercules wrestling Anteus. c1730. For John Aislabie. Limestone statue, ashlar pedestal. Overall height approximately 3 metres. The pedestal has a moulded plinth and cornice. Hercules is supported by a tree trunk and lifts Anteus high into the air. The statue stands in the focus of a small semicircular terraced open-air theatre, close to the Rustic Bridge (qv) and the original southern limit of the gardens.
