The grade shall be amended to read II* (star)

HENDERSKELFE LIME WALK SE 7169 (south end) Castle Howard 12/45 Statue of figure playing a lyre and pedestal GV II Statue of figure playing a lyre and the pedestal on which it stands. Early C19. Sandstone. Approximately 5 metres in height. Plaque at base carries inscription of Henry Hart Milman's poem 'The Belvidere Apollo' which won the Newdigate prize for poetry in 1812:

"For mild he seem'd, as in Elysian bowers, Wasting in careless ease the joyous hours. Haughty as bards have sung, with princely sway Curbing the fierce flame-breathing steeds of day; Beauteous as vision seen in dreamy sleep By holy maid on Delphi's haunted steep, Mid the dim twilight of the laurel grove Too fair to worship, too divine to love."

Pyramidal pedestal carved to suggest a craggy mountain with trees, ruins and a stream, surmounted by standing figure in loose drapes, holding a lyre. HBMC, Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, Part 32, North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, Grade I.
