9/80 Group of 6 Hartley chest tombs to west and south of tower of Church of Saint Michael

GV II

Group of 6 chest tombs of members of the Hartley family. Late C18 and early C19. Sandstone ashlar. 2 chests with acanthus rosettes flanked by fluted pilasters on ends, others plain. The 6 chest tombs form a prominent group, and commemorate members of an important local famaily who built East Hall (qv) and Middleton Lodge (qv).
