  1. 4412 COURT YARD SE9 (East Side)

Walls surrounding garden of "The Gate House" TQ 4274 53/W18

  1. (The "Gate House" is the residence of the Commandant of the Institute of Army Education). In front of Gate House, actually in TILT YARD APPROACH, brick walls with sloped coping and gabled gate piers, probably late C17 or early C18. Brick walls of similar type along West side of garden. On East side original C16 red brick wall complete with sloped coping. Inside this wall small niches with pointed heads every 3 or 4 yards. Diaper of blue headers in central part. On South side original wall much repaired in C19 and coping lost. Running East from South-East corner of Gate House, a piece of red brick wall of C18 appearance, said to be part of earlier Gate House.
