NORTHALLERTON HIGH STREET SE 3693-3793 (west side) 7/44 Nos 186 and 187 (formerly listed as No 186 (premises occupied by 9.12.69 Langton's Limited) and No 187 (premises occupied by G F Hird)) GV II 1 or 2 houses, now 2 shops. Mid-late C18 with considerable later alterations. Rendered pantile roof. 3 storeys, originally 4 bays. Ground floor: two C20 shop fronts. First floor: large 3-light casement window in first 2 bays; one late C19 canted bay window to 3rd and 4th bays. Second floor: sash windows with flush exposed sash boxes and projecting ashlar sills. Shaped kneelers, ashlar coping. No surviving stacks. Rear: two 3-storey wings occupy full width of building, and have tumbled gables. Added on to the wing behind No 186 is a long single-storey stable range, with stable door in sandstone ashlar quoined surround with keyed lintel. Included for group value.
