9/36 Revetment walls, terraces and steps on north side of Fountains Hall
GV II
Revetment walls, terraces and steps. Early C17 with C19 restoration. Coursed squared limestone. Approximately 50 metres long overall, extending from rear of Fountains Hall (qv) to trackway to west of the house. Low walls flank flights of steps and a terrace at third-floor level is linked to a C17 doorway by a bridge. At basement and ground-floor levels blocked doorways suggest that the terraces and rear access have been altered in the C19 or C20. A water course passes across the base of the wall to west of house and appears to run towards the service rooms in the basement.
