9/54 Northern Stable Block - GV I
Stable block and quadrant wall to Duncombe Park (qv). 1846. By Charles Barry. Sandstone ashlar. Square with open courtyard and quadrant wall to east. Stable block: 1 storey with attic. 7 bays, outer bays flanked by rusticated pilasters and containing keyed round-headed recesses, with window to left bay and door to right bay, both with semi-circular windows above. Central bays form keyed round arched blank arcade supported on rusticated pilasters and containing slit windows. Dentilled cornice and blank parapet. Corners rising to attics with single 2-light casements, plain parapet and urns at corners. Clock tower to left with circular louvres in square recesses, and curved pyramidal roof carrying weather-vane. Corridor: plain curving wall with 2 small rectangular windows.
