GV II

Barn and attached wall. Late C19, incorporating features of earlier date, including a window removed from the Church of St Hydroc (q.v.) at the time of the C19 restoration. Slatestone and granite rubble. Granite dressings and quoins. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable end with raised coped verges and kneelers, with cross finial to the south gable end ; the north end hipped. Plan: Rectangular barn, built into the bank at the rear, and with a cart shed attached at the north end. The wall is attached to south east, with a gateway; this screens the Higher Garden from the estate yard. Exterior: The front is 2-storey ; at ground floor 2 doors and 2 windows, all with granite lintels, with a single storey lean-to left. First floor has central loading door, window to right and left and irregular row of square pigeon holes. The north end is blind with attached single storey open-fronted cart shed of 3 bays. The south gable end has a 4-centred arched roll-moulded granite doorway with carved spandrels and square hood mould ; C19 panelled and studded door ; above, a re-set blind 3-light granite window, with chamfered mullions, 4-centred arch and hood mould. This end of the barn was given an architectural treatment as it faces the Higher Garden. The wall is attached to right, in rubble, about 3 metres high and about 15 metres long, with granite doorway with 2-centred arch, hollow-chamfered with recessed spandrels, C19 panelled and studded door. At the rear, the barn has central double doors, reached by a ramp over a ditch, with door to right and window to left; at lower level, 2 windows to left and central loading door above.
