Building, rounding a quadrant corner, containing a complex group of shops and offices. Early C19. White brick and slates. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellars. A panelled parapet with a moulded stucco cornice has a higher centre with a heavy stucco surround to a sunk panel. A plain raised stucco band below the 2nd storey windows. 8 window range, arranged 2:1:1:1:3 with the centre and ends breaking forward slightly: all 12-pane sashes, but with larger panes to the 1st storey where the windows reach to floor level with heavy wooden frames and architraves. A continuous cast-iron balcony along the 1st storey with a scrolled balustrade. The shop windows to Nos 27 and part of 28 have vertical glazing-bars only, with a row of small pierced cast-iron balusters above. The ground storey of the southern part of No.28 (Crescent House) has rendered rustication to the walls and 2 sash windows in deep reveals, the upper sashes small-paned, and below the sills cast-iron grilles over the cellar openings with an ornate acanthus-leaf design. INTERIOR: changes of level on the upper storeys and signs of alteration in the layout suggest that the uniform front has been in part superimposed on to earlier C18 buildings on the site; the front range at the south end appears to have been added to the remainder c1830. A narrow geometric stair has stick balusters and a plain wreathed handrail; internal window shutters with sunk panels, 6-panelled doors. An ornate fireplace surround has cast-iron panels with honeysuckle decoration in similar style to the external grilles.
