TL 63 SE FINCHINGFIELD HOWE STREET (east side)

House. C16 and later. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with red clay tiles. Complex plan consisting of C16 E-W range with stack and wing to S at E end, and 2 C18 wings to N, forming an approximate square. External stack and C19 single- storey extension to E. 2 storeys. W elevation (to road), 2 late C19 splayed bays of sashes, 2-4-2 lights, and on the first floor 2 early C19 sashes of 16 lights. Entrance to S, C20 glazed door in flat-roofed porch. Some early zigzag pargetting on E elevation. The interior has chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops. Joists of horizontal section in the original (middle) part, elsewhere of vertical section. Jowled posts. Roof of original part rebuilt at a higher level, leaving one original gable in situ with collar for clasped purlins, and wattle and daub.
