PARISH OF CHATSWORTH CHATSWORTH GARDENS SK 2670 6/64 Flight of Steps with Urns and Statues, East of Orangery GV II Flight of steps with urns and statues. Early C19, part of the Sixth Duke of Devonshire's remodelling of the gardens. Sandstone ashlar and Carrara marble. Straight flight of stone steps flanked by stepped parapet walls. The foot of the steps is flanked by two statues of sitting dogs, based on the C2 Dog of Alcibiades. At the top of the steps are two urns of Carrara marble, with relief carving. As a centre piece looking down the steps is a larger and more sumptuous urn on a carved pedestal, both in Carrara marble. The Gardens and Park are included on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
