9.1.70 Prince Alfred Public House

GV II

Public house. 1856 with later alterations including ground floor facade and interior. Brick, stuccoed. 3 storeys, 3 bays. Partly-fluted iron composite columns support fascia and dentilled cornice. Recessed timber front with very fine detailing and engraved glass. Central oriel flanked by canted bays which sweep back in ogee curve to side entrances. Panelled base with arched windows above and continuous dentilled cornice. Composite columns and broken pediment to oriel and entrances. Faience. Scroll-work to ceiling. To 1st floor, central tripartite sash window with further sashes to outer bays, in architraves. Iron balcony . To 2nd floor a central Venetian window flanked by keyed segment-arched sashes. Scroll-work frieze and cornice. Interior has similar high quality timber fittings and scrolled lincrusta ceiling.
