Closely related in style and continuing main lines of Whitehall Court, q.v. but rather more Flemish Renaissance in detail and with tautly composed late Gothic "belfry" tower to north-east corner. 5 and 6 storeys with gabled pavilions and dormered mansard. Tripartite window groups separate gabled pavilions, one to Whitehall Court, one splayed to corner and 2 to Whitehall Place angled front terminating in tower; Embankment Gardens-nave front with similar gabled pavilions and terrace overlooking gardens; Pilaster mullion- transom windows, set in loggias on top floors of pavilions which have 3 storey canted bays. The polygonal "belfry" corner tower has rich Goth decoration and tracery to lofty windows and rises a full storey above the roof line;finished off with a conical spire. Ornately balustraded stone terrace above gardens. The interiors are lavishly and completely faced by Waterhouse in glazed, ornately patterned, terracotta tiling including the columns; the principal staircase, of marble rising in an unsupported oval sweep trough 3 storeys, is, however, an insertion of 1950-51 by Clyde Young and Engle. Part of the remarkable Whitehall roofscape.
