Founded by William the Conqueror as penance for the Battle of Hastings (1066), this ruined abbey lies next to the battlefield that changed English history.

Oasthouses with Attached Stowage at Blackfriars Farm
Battle, England
Oasthouses with attached stowage. Early to mid C19. Built of brick with cemented roofs to hop kilns and hipped tiled roofs to stowage. Two circular hop kilns to west with conical roofs retaining some of cemented coating. Cowls and fantails missing.

Large building of irregular plan, roughly the shape of three sides of a courtyard with ground infilling on the south side and a projection to the north east. C16 timber framed building with plaster infilling, the ground floor rebuilt in red brick.

One building. C18 front to a probably timber-framed building. Two storeys. Four windows. Painted brick first floor of No 25 tile-hung with a slight bellcast and trace of a moulded bressummer below. Tiled roof. Glazing bars intact.
