HUMSHAUGH CHESTERS NY 9170 15/222 Entrance screen and gates to Chesters

GV II

Entrance screen and gates, c.1891 by Norman Shaw. Ashlar, with channeled rustication to piers, wrought iron. Stepped quadrant plan. Central gateway has piers,with plinth, pulvinated frieze, dentil cornice and ball finials,holding double gates with scroll-topped stiles and fleur-de-lys tops to bars and dogbars. Smaller flanking pedestrian gates. Screen at each side has low wall with arched and moulded coping linking 9 piers with pulvinated friezes and moulded caps.
