HUMSHAUGH LINCOLN HILL NY 97 SW 2/271 Lincoln Hill House

GV II

House, dated 1799 on lintel, incorporating earlier C18 work in east wing; west wing rebuilt late C19. 1799 house rubble with ashlar front, east wing coursed rubble, west wing snecked tooled stone; cut dressings. Welsh slate roofs. Linear plan: house with flanking wings and outer right extension.

South elevation: 1799 house 2 storeys, 3 wide bays. Plinth, bold moulded eaves cornice. Central part-glazed 6-panel door with 4-pane overlight, lintel with raised triple keystone and worn date in oval panel; 16-pane sash above. Flanking broad canted full-height bays with 12-pane sashes. Coped gables with end stacks. Left wing 2 storeys, 2 bays; 4-pane sashes in ashlar alternating- block surrounds, and similar stair window to far right. Moulded corbels to eaves, coped gable with end stack. Right wing, in 2 sections, both with raised quoins: Left part 2 storeys, 2 bays. 12-pane sashes in raised stone surrounds; similar smaller window inserted at ground floor centre. Coped gable with end stack. Right part without openings; coped gable with moulded kneelers. All stacks rendered, on old stone bases, except for stepped-and-corniced ashlar stack to far right. Gabled right return, fronting road, shows tripartite small-paned sash and 12-pane sash over, both in raised stone surrounds. Rear elevation of 1799 part shows round-arched 15-pane sash stair window, with radial glazing, in raised stone surround.

Interior: Open-well stair with cut string,stick balusters, ramped and moulded handrail, urn-on-vase newels and shaped tread ends.
