HUMSHAUGH WALWICK NY 9170 SW 14/277 Little Walwick 15.4.69 GV II

House, early C18 extended C19. Coursed large rubble with roughly-shaped quoins and tooled dressings; Lakeland slate roof, except for stone slates on rear wing. South elevation in 3 sections. Central part 3 storeys, 5 bays: central 4-panel door with plain overlight; 12-pane sash windows to lower floors. 2nd floor has central 9-pane fixed window and 9-pane sashes, some renewed. To right a 3- storey bay, slightly set back, with renewed tripartite sashes (shortened on 2nd floor) and blocked door on ground floor left. Centre and right parts share common roof, with verges overhanging eaves; stepped end and ridge stacks. Lower left part 2 storeys, 3 windows above 2, all renewed 12-pane sashes; stepped left end stack.

Left return shows rear wing with boarded door in irregular-block surround and 16-pane Yorkshire sash under lintel with raised grooved panel, perhaps a re-used Roman piece.

Interior not seen. C20 extensions to rear right not of interest.
