The John Moyle building was built in 1918 to house retail spaces and a hotel. The building was constructed during a time of rapid growth and development, largely in response to the booming oil and gas industry in surrounding Butler County. Moyie was president of the local Chamber of Commerce when he financed the construction of this building. It is nominated under Criterion A for its local significance in the area of Commerce.
