Only one more day to go before our Europe trip and we are going to use every last bit of it! We are mostly ready but have hit a few unexpected wrinkles that have made preparations even more frantic in the last couple days before we go.
First, poor David was hit with an excruciating toothache this weekend, which required taking lots of painkillers and trying not to commit suicide until his dentist could see him on Monday - at which point he got a root canal. Fun, right? It goes without saying that it's better this happened now than in England next week, but was really not how he would have hoped to spend the weekend. He's all better now, though - the dentist did a great job.
Second, I am having laptop issues. This pales in comparison to David's troubles, but it is not helpful either. We bought a cute little laptop awhile back and it works great but I tested Photoshop on it over the weekend and the computer's smaller processor couldn't handle it. Furthermore, I realized I'd probably be miserable trying to do my work on that tiny screen and keyboard. Obviously I should have tested it earlier, so I brought this on myself, but here we are.
So, I spent hours of research trying to find a suitable alternative that was more powerful but still lightweight, and finally found a great one on Amazon. I ordered it with one-day shipping, it arrived tonight, and it's beautiful and powerful and light... but the wi-fi is completely broken beyond repair, even by David. Argghhhhh!! Getting online is considerably more important than Photoshop, so this is a pretty major disaster to have at the last minute. So, tomorrow, the day before we leave, I am going to have to return this one to UPS and find another laptop from some local store, in addition to all the remaining tasks that have to be done!
OK, I'm relaxing. Deep breaths. It will all work out fine. I'll try to do another quick post before we leave home Thursday morning.
