"Head and foot from a figure of Christ / Devotional images were banned by Church reformers in England in the 1530s. Images of Christ were among the last to be outlawed. These fragments from a figure of Christ are a remarkable survival. Though incomplete they still express the grim brutality of the Crucifixion.
