This important colonial backcountry trading village and government seat was held briefly by the British during the Revolutionary War and was the scene of General Nathaniel Greene's siege in 1781. The site contains the remains of earthworks from 1781 fortifications, remains of two historic villages, a colonial plantation complex, and numerous prehistoric sites.
