Under the direction of King Ludwig II, work begins on Neuschwanstein Castle with the clearing of its rocky perch.

The access road to the castle site is completed.

The foundation stone of Neuschwanstein Castle is laid in Bavaria. In accordance with a tradition established by King Ludwig I, it contains memorabilia including the building plan, portraits of Ludwig II and coins from his reign.

Construction begins on the main part of Neuschwanstein Castle, the Palas. In order to accommodate Ludwig II's desires for the throne room, the latest technology using a steel skeleton is incorporated.

The Gateway Building of Neuschwanstein Castle is ready for occupation. Ludwig II lives in the upper floor when he visits the site.
