Church of late Norman and Perpendicular date, restored in 1881 by Edwin Dolby of Abingdon and London. MATERIALS: Mainly rubblestone, some ashlar, red tiled roof.

Country house, c.1662 probably by Captain William Winde for William 1st Earl of Craven. Chalk ashlar with grey Bath stone dressings and stacks; stone slate roof. Carolean design, with Dutch and French influences.

The Crown Hotel

Early to mid C17, refronted in mid C18. Large rubble stone inn probably originally including Portwell House to east. 3-storey and attic with steep stone tiled roof and 2 renewed large chimney stacks with diagonal brick shafts on stone base.

St Mary Magdalen

Parish church. (RCHM 35). Late C13 chancel. South chapel, circa 1330. North and South aisles have arcades rebuilt early in Cl6. West tower, between 1511 and 1531. South porch, warly Cl6. Cl7 and C18 monuments.

Church. Early C12, with early C14 and C15 alterations. c.1632 for William Lenthall, Speaker of House of Commons, and 1788 for William John Lenthall. Uncoursed limestone rubble; gabled stone slate roof. Nave and chancel.

1898-1900 by Bucknall and Comper. MATERIALS: Red brick with limestone dressings. Clay tile roof to the main body of the church. Aisle roofs probably leaded. PLAN: Nave, N and S aisles.

Parish church. (RCHM 40). Probably C12 in origin, the chancel and nave being mainly rebuilt C13; South porch added in C13. In C15 East wall of chancel rebuilt and again in 1833. Church restored 1936-7.
