Parish Church of St Andrew Buckland

The eastern three bays of the N arcade are late C12. The eastern part of the S arcade was rebuilt in 1850-2 by F R Wilson, and the church was extended westwards and largely rebuilt externally by Butterfield in 1876-80.

Remains of Mediaeval hospital, chapel tower, prison and town hall and assembly rooms. The Maison Dieu Hall was originally an aisle added to the Maison Dieu founded by Hubert de Burgh circa 1203 for the maintenance of the poor and infirm.

Boundary wall. Built in later C 19, reusing some mediaeval masonry. Flint and reused masonry from the former Benedictine Priory of St Martin's.

Former priory gatehouse, later school library. C14, restored by G E Street in 1880. Originally gatehouse to St Martin's Priory refounded by Archbishop Corbeuil in 1131.
