The Garden of Remembrance
The Remembrance Garden was opened in 1920 to commemorate soldiers lost in the First World War.
Buildings and the terrace overlooking the pool, are shown on the 1882 Ordnance Survey map. By 1920 the buildings had been demolished and the garden laid out in a parterre form, with the war memorial itself located on the rear wall, providing the focal point of the new remembrance gardens.
The balustrading came from Shenstone Court whilst the stone lions on the gate piers reputedly came from Moxhull Hall, Wishaw. The war memorial itself was built by the Lichfield stonemasons firm Robert Bridgman and Sons.
