Located in Morningside Heights near Columbia University, St. John the Divine is the largest cathedral in the world. It has been under construction since the 1890s, and the work is still not complete.
Interior ceiling arch details. One key feature of this cathedral is that the nave is built with pointed Gothic arches, while the transept features rounded Romanesque arches. The original architectural plan called for Romanesque arches, but Gothic architecture took over in the 1920s.
