The reredos of the Carmelite conventual church of the Incarnation in Ávila, fittingly with a central panel showing the Annunciation when, at the angel's message, Christ took flesh in the Virgin Mary's womb. On either side are the great Carmelite mystics and reformers, St Teresa of Ávila (whose convent this was), and St John of the Cross (who visited her in this same convent). Above is the prophet Elijah, one of the central figures of Carmelite spirituality.
