I posted a daytime shot a few days ago. I took this just after sunset on June 5, 2011. It had been overcast most of the day but the sun broke below the horizon a few minutes before setting.
I drove down to the Heceta Head overlook from Yachats, hoping that this would happen. When I got to the pullout, there was another car there with the doors open and music blaring. Four local teenagers, I think. I was a little worried, but they seemed nice enough. Two gals and two guys. Eventually I got into the music and was having a good time. One of the guys was taking little wads of bread or chips and throwing them one at a time out over the ocean, where they would drop about 200 feet. There was a raven sitting nearby and when he would throw one the raven would take off and follow the thing down, scooping it out of the air at the last moment. It was fascinating to watch. As the sky started to get some color, more cars (passersby) were stopping and the people were getting out and photographing their friends with their point-and-shoots.
