Taynuilt is a well-detailed classical villa, built on a diminuitive scale on high ground. Its symmetrical, classically proportioned garden front with its round-arched gable window, remains significantly unaltered and is clearly visible from the main road, adding much to the historic character of the village. Its tall wallhead stacks distinguish the property, adding to its interest. Also of note is the detached former stable block to the SW of the house with its simple round-arched openings adding further value to the Tweedside Road streetscape and to the wider setting of the house. Tweedside road is the early 19th century core of Newtown St Boswells, and contains many of the villages earliest houses. The road is a cul-de-sac, terminating in the former United Presbyterian manse.
