Charles Ower 1857, opened 1865, converting James Leslie's unfinished tide harbour, begun 1833, to a wet dock of 8.5 acres. Rougly rectangular, with sea entrance at chamfered SE angle: access to Victoria Dock in E wall. Depth 18 feet, entrance width 54 feet. Quayage 2,425 feet of Kingoodie ashlar with capstans and other dockside furniture. Floating steel caisson dock gate at entrance doubles as bridge.
